Chronic Pain Education Program & Warm Aqua Therapy
September - November 2017
Introduction
Unionville Health Centre will be partnering with the City of Markham through a four week program to help those suffering from chronic pain conditions such as:
- Fibromyalgia
- Tendonitis and Sprain/strain injuries
- Arthritis (including hips, knees, shoulders and spine)
- Motor vehicle accident related injuries
- Disc injuries
- Sacro-iliac dysfunction
- Other painful health conditions
We are doing this through educational workshops starting in January and a warm aquatherapy program in a pool that is not over your head in addition to continuing our regular deep aquatherapy program.
Workshop Information
In this workshop you will develop new skills in pain and stress management, nutrition, creating positive mind-body connections, and postural/body awareness using proven techniques for success.
What is Aqua Therapy?
It is well researched as a gateway to better health and has long been revered for its effectiveness in increasing function and decreasing pain. Using aqua therapy, our doctors will show you exercises to help decrease your pain and improve your energy levels.
Specific exercises will be shown on how to improve your:
- Flexibility
- Improve Strength
- Function
You will also be taught which movements to avoid, both in and out of the pool, in order to decrease your chance of injury.

Our unique warm pool aqua therapy program will allow participants to perform exercises in an environment that supports those with chronic pain and allows for movement in a non-weight bearing format.
Regular Deep Pool Program
Unionville Health Centre will still be running the regular deep pool aquatherapy pool program from 8:00 pm – 8:45 pm (right after the warm pool program).
